Kobe mosque

Kobe mosque also known as Kobe Muslim mosque,was founded in October ,1935 in Kobe and is japan’s first mosque.Its construction was funded by donations collected by the Islamic committee of Kobe from 1928 Until its opening in 1935.The Mosque was confiscated by the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1943.The Mosque is located in one of Kobe's best-Known tourist area.




The Mosque was built in traditional Indian style by the Czech architect Jan Josef Savager (1885-1969),the architect of a number of western religious buildings throughout Japan.

History of Kobe Mosque

The Kobe Mosque ,the first mosque in Japan, was built In 1935 through the donations of the neighborhood
Muslim community, Which consisted of Indians, Tatars and Turks. It has survived air raids during the war in the pacific as well as the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake, and the original building is intact  even today.

There is a library set up inside the mosque, with Arabic publications lining the shelves .the book collection also has Japanese language texts about Islam .

The number of Muslims in Japan whether tourists, students or workers are increasing every year. It leads to the expansion of the number of mosques in Japan. For the interested community, I will introduce to you some of the mosques that you can find all around Japan.

Gifu Mosque is located at Gifu Prefecture. It was established by Nagoya Mosque in 2007, and it was the first mosque in Gifu. You can go there by bus bound for Gifu Daigaku from Gifu Station and take off at Gidai Guchi (岐大口).This mosque has two floors and it also held many religious activities.

Kobe Mosque is the first mosque in Japan. It was founded in 1935 through donations by Islamic Committee of Kobe. The donations started in 1928, and it took 7 years to finally built this mosque. You can visit the mosque even though you are not Muslims, but if you want to come in a group, you must make a reservation first. During the visit, you need to wear proper clothes that do not expose your skin and short pants, the mini skirt is not allowed. You can also join study sessions that are provided here.Through this study session, you can learn more about Islam.

OKACHIMACHI AS- SALAAM Mosque.Located at an 11 minute walk from ueno  station and very accessible from many sightseeing spots around Ueno, the As-Salaam Foundation is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of this mosque.
The  mosq building itself serves two different purposes. On the first floor there is a community center, which is a place for weekly gatherings in order to conduct various activities within the local Muslim community. The upper level serves as a prayer hall for the visitors and the local Muslim community. Inside the building there are also a library and a study room with a wide collection of Islamic books.

HIROO Mosque, is located in the Roppongi Hills area,Minato ward. It is part of the Arabic Islamic Institute Building, an Islamic cultural establishment located within the most diverse and global tokyo district in Tokyo. More than just a religious establishment, the Arabic Islamic Institute is a center of Arabic culture in Tokyo. In addition to meeting the need of a prayer hall through the establishment of the Hiroo Mosque for the Muslim community, the center makes efforts in spreading the understanding of Arabic culture in Tokyo, One of its activities is conducting a school of Arabic culture and language, which is located in the same building.

Camii Mosque is the largest mosque in Japan and is located in the center of Shibuya ward. Its convenient location makes it easily accessible from many major touristic spots around the center of Tokyo such as Shibuya, Harajuku, Shimokitazawa, and others.Tokyo Camii Mosque is also serving as a Turkish cultural center. It was built by the community of Turkish immigrants from Kazan-Russia in 1938. It is not only the largest mosque in Japan, but is arguably also the most beautiful one. is the largest mosque in Japan and is located in the center of Shibuya ward. The mosques in Japan will probably not resemble the common design that most Muslim people ar familiar with. The reason is that most of them are established within usual Japanese apartment buildings, blending in with the surrounding residential area.

Built in 1528-29, this archaeological splendour is found in Mehrauli Archaeological Park and encloses one mosque along with two tombs of Jamali and Kamali. Built in Red Sandstone with Marble-facing, this mosque is positioned in an enclosed garden area and includes large courtyard, prayer hall, five arches with the central arch having a dome. The mosque is considered to be a pioneer of Mughal Architecture especially the Jhorokha System.
N.B: The mosque is not allowed to be accessed after sunset as people often complain about supernatural activities, eerie sound and sudden white visions.

Built especially for Jahanara, the daughter of Mughal emperor Shahjahan, Jama Masjid in Agra is a grand historical monument raised in 1648. The rectangular mosque houses a central nave with a single dome along with two colonnaded halls on both sides. The mosque comprises two square chambers which are crowned with domes. Carved mihrabs beautify the main chamber and the two smaller rooms. The mosque rests on a raised platform which is topped with five arched entrances leading towards the courtyard. The Tomb of the popular Sufi Saint, Sheikh Salim Chisti is found within the complex of Jama Masjid. The mosque is topped with three huge domes engraved with inverted lotus and kalash finials (a distinctive section or ornament at the apex of a roof) fixed on the top. Jama Masjid in Agra can accommodate around 10,000 people at a time.

The literal meaning of Taj-ul-Masjid is ‘The Crown of Mosques’ and it is located in Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh. Claimed to be the one of the tallest mosques in Asia, this mosque was initially built during the Nawab Shah Jahan Begum (1844–1860 and 1868–1901) of Bhopal. The mosque was given final touch in 1985. The entrance gate is designed with ancient motifs taken from from circa 1250 Syrian mosques. The pink facade of the mosque is topped by 18-storey high octagonal minarets brought out with marble domes. The double-storeyed gateway is attached with four recessed archways and nine cusped multiple openings to the main prayer hall. The Quibla wall is engraved with eleven arches and has exclusive screens of trellis work.
