The prestigious Platinum Award has been given to the Badriya Juma Masjid, Kundapur in India, under the specialized category ‘IGBC Green Place of Worship’. Stated as the world’s first green mosque, this award was given as an appreciation for its green and energy efficiency technologies featured in this Mosque’s design.
The mosque is designed as an ‘L-Shape’ with elevated prayer hall, greenery surrounding, and a water tank providing a naturally cooling environment located near the mosque. According to the release, the entire building uses up to only six watts of power.
The mosque uses wind and solar energy that sport hybrid and renewable forms of power for its entire power supply. The building also uses maximum ventilation aiming to reduce heating in the building. The ventilation works with the wind turbine on top of the minaret at getting the prayer hall under the impact of the cool breeze near the building.
